Camp Outdoor Cooking Equipment

Most places that sell camp outdoor cooking equipment have an excellent lineup of products to select from. The secret, however, is knowing what equipment you need.

Cast iron cookware is one of the most versatile pieces of outdoor camp cooking equipment that you can have. Quality cast iron cooking equipment will literally last a lifetime. In addition, you can use it for more than outdoor cooking. It's perfect for stovetop or oven baking. Cast iron camping equipment is perfect for almost any outdoor cooking experience - backyard, camping, hunting, scouting, and so on.

You'll have a lot of cast iron cooking equipment to choose from. There's cast iron bakerware, Dutch ovens, griddles, skillets, and pots.

But, if you can only have one piece of camp outdoor cooking equipment, you want the Dutch oven. There are two types of Dutch ovens, kitchen style and camp style. The style names are slightly misnomers, however, as you can use both in the kitchen or outdoors. The difference is that the camp style comes with three short legs on the bottom. The purpose of the three legs is to raise the oven above the heat source.

A Dutch oven is one of the most versatile of outdoor camp cooking equipment. You can use it to roast, fry, stew, and bake. You can even use it as a slow cooker. It's main cooking asset is that it retains heat very well - perfect for cookware that is being exposed to the elements.

Another piece of cooking equipment you'll need are cooking paddles - either wood or stainless steel. Cooking paddles have long handles which make them perfect for cooking with large pots or Dutch ovens.

Cooking over coals is great for those that really want to "rough it," but for those that like things somewhat easier, propane burners can't be beat. 55,000 BTUs is the lowest BTU burner that you should consider. Don't get a cheap propane burner, it won't be worth it in the long run. Pay more for one that is built to last and one that has the latest safety features built into it. Propane burners are not only great for camping - they're also perfect for backyard parties and, if you love sporting events, tailgating.

If you plan on doing a little fishing on your camp outing, consider taking along a fish fry basket as part of your cooking equipment. The fish fry basket fits inside your Dutch oven for deep frying. Just be sure that you get the right size fish pot for your Dutch oven.

Campfire cooking is very fun. Whether you're using sticks to roast marshmallows or hotdogs, or you're cooking burgers on a campfire rack, or you're making soup in a kettle over an open flame, you'll never feel as free as you do when you're cooking this way. But campfire cooking is much more fun when you bring along the right outdoor cooking equipment.

Meat Cooking Times
Knowing the appropriate meat cooking times is important because you cannot always determine when a piece of meat is "done" by simply looking at it.

Camper's Guide To Outdoor Cooking
The "Camper's Guide to Outdoor Cooking", by John G. Ragsdale, is a great introduction to the world of camping.

Cooking
For some, cooking is a passion. For others, cooking is a chore. Since cooking was invented, the world of foods has never been the same.

Outdoor Cooking Grill Exhaust
An outdoor cooking grill exhaust system, while not absolutely necessary, does make the outdoor grilling experience a bit more enjoyable.
